Riichi City-Japanese Mahjong
4.3y'all only need to read this review, I assure that this review will cover Lotssaaa stuffs. including it's free to play aspect .
1) graphics
many characters got better outfits, and the winning animation have had MASSIVE IMPROVEMENTS compared to the past. some old characters will have bad default outfits and it would absolutely SUCK if you lose the featured character to *that*, but that's only for f2p players, really, cause many of them have newer outfits that is pretty good, and you can spend money to get those.
each character have "awakened outfits" when you reach level 5 with your relationship, and this is pretty easy to do, takes at MAX 2.5 weeks.
they also have yakuman animations that looks pretty good (yakuman are high scoring hands) and they are fully animated!!!!!
UI is alright, it has its flaws but is decent. You can also mute certain characters that you find annoying during the match.
you also have backgrounds for ur lobby and in match, but the ones for the lobby ain't free.
riichi sticks are alright, like, its different for each character and themes, paired with the riichi animation and winning animation, which you can get through banners and collabs and events.
you can get those a bit cheaper through bundles with money.
2) music
small section, but some bgms are pretty good, and while almost all of them (bad and good ones) must be paid w money, there are some decent ones that can be obtained through banners (riichi soundtrack and 1 bgms). overall there are some solid pieces that are pretty good.
3) gameplay
(aside from 4p and 3p, those are ranked), they have some variations that they made themselves, and some minigames for events. pretty fun, ig. custom matches that you play with friends allow you to tweak some rules for the match, like for region variations that have special rules.
a downside is that you don't have difficulty settings for bots.
*edit, you can in he tutorial page, just not in friendly matches.
4) value??
riichi city's competitor is Mahjong Soul, and boy oh boy is this game WAYYY better.
good graphics and f2p.
don't listen to those exaggerating the pity rate, since there isn't any info in the game about "pity". sure, it's hard to grind compared to like, genshin or zzz, but that's because cosmetics are the only monetisable aspect in this game. I have played for nearly a year and have stacked up to 9 characters, 4 of which were the featured characters (not including 2 default characters). You can easily get tokens (ticket to pull) by completing very simple missions over the week. Just log in for 6 days in a week (you don't have to play any game, just open the game and it's done) and you get a token. 5 days and 7 matches (over one week, 1 each day) and that's also another token.
