There are tutorial stages teaching functions of basic classes, and with the Strike Witches collab, the game has finally added new playe goal board that gives rewards in return for completing goals. There are also other sources of free units. Overall, it's not a hard game to learn and get a hang of.

The gimmick of this particular tower defense game is to upgrade your existing units during a map. You'll have to manage your cost resource on placing units, upgrading them, and using their skills. Unlike other gacha TD games where you only need resource to place units.

There is a fair amount of classes that have very distinct functions, but not too many to be confusing. There is also a wide variety of skills, many targetable, the game probably has the most targetable AoE skills out of all contemporary tower defense as well, which lead to strategic choices in higher difficulty maps. In addition, units have equipment and weapon slots that you can customize to your liking.

The balance of this game isn't particularly good (like most gacha games). Most of the strongest units are high rarity, and the cost penalty is almost non-existent. Good thing that the game is generous enough for newbies to get a decent starting team and to expand from there. Good weapons and equipment also balance out some of the disadvantages of low rarity units.
