Ok. Let me start with obvious thing: I am superbly happy that we got good FMA game.
I like it. A lot. It is good in terms of gameplay, graphics, music. Even voice acting is top notch. But I have few gripes that needs to be mentioned first. So lets start with review:
Good:
Graphics: Top notch, great animation of attacks, fluid scenes, well made special attacks(Scar is cosplaying as Naruto tho).
Almost everything is animated outside actual chat bubbles.
Sounds: Great sounds, quality up to par with Nier, fitting superbly with FMA theme. Nothing else to say. Unit sounds get boring after while, but hey, that is normal, so no need to take point for that.
Story: Cannot say much as my Jap is not all that good, but you get to relive FMA storyline with some extra things here and there. Fun is there to be had even if you just watch the animations go on(Famous Barry the Chopper scene is as much fun as it can get)
Gameplay: Solid. Turn based strategy at its best. You get turn, opponent gets turn. In PvP you trade actions with opponent(You can set it on auto, or play manually if you want). Unit abilities have good uses. AI play is bit dumb(There are some abilities that AI simply do not know HOW to use-Mei teleportation for example). But I had no problems doing what I wanted to do. There are combination attacks based on allegiance and bonuses based on how many you bring of same faction(Bonuses are from 2 and 4 units, they stack)
Bad:
Grind: Well here we are, grind is ever present. Materials to level up, to get higher grade(That gives bonuses, unlocks modifications to abilities)
But biggest issue I have is Stars. So to explain this I will write this down:
To get 1 character from 1* to 6* you will need: 1*>2* Dupe; 2*>3* 2x any 2* characters; 3*>4* 3x Same character + 1 random 3*; 4*>5* 2(or 3, damn I forgot :() 4* characters; 5*>6* 1x 5* Original character and 2x 5* Randoms.
That is to say if you wanna 6* any SSR you will need 8 copies of it.
Stamina: Stamina is another bitter pill. You only get 120 stamina, your cap will not grow and most rounds take 10 or 20 stamina, while you recover 1 per tick.
That is to say. I am playing the game, I love it and I will continue playing it for long time.
And as a shameless plug, here is my invitation code that will give you some rewards so please enjoy the game and do not get frustrated by RNG: MTcyMTk0NTAxMzE3NzcwNjcyOTUuMTEwMDAxMy4xNzY1NzQ2MDU=
Well.. What to say. It is good looking game? Yes.
It is fun to play? Could be, even tho it is Idle gacha game with typical AFK style game type progression. With some addons it can be relatively fun.
Does it take a lot of your time? That depends on you, purely on you. I joined S2 that started in Dec 31st and spend few hours in game. I enjoyed myself so far and I plan to play for while(Yes I am F2P)
F2P Friendly? Relatively. In early stages you get lot of currency and pull tokens, but as usual do not expected to win against whales(I am not saying its not possible, but pretty close to low to no chance). But I did not yet met whale on S2(But its been up for 2 days only).
Story? To be honest after while I started skipping, but from what I read before that, yeah not worst. Tho some translation problems exists.
Overal: Needs better translation, gameplay can be fun and there are no "elemental" bonuses for having 5 of something in party. So build your own way(There is one limit and that is about main girl, but its rather lax and can be easily worked into pretty much any combination).
So give it a shot, you might like it, or not. But from my point of view, not the worst time killer.
Some might scoff at this game for its pixel art graphics, but for me this was great look. I enjoy it.
But you are probably here to read about gameplay, gacha and progression right?
So I will start from gameplay:
Solid, you build teams of 3+3 backup(Your first team member die, its backup takes place) from 3 elements(Witch-yourself- is special that can be considered member of all elements). You can get +10% Stats if you have Vanguard team of same element, +15% if all 6 characters are same element.
Each Doll have 2 abilities and 1 passive. There are 2 types of abilities. Activated or Charge. Activated one cost energy, either Order, which is produced automatically, or chaos which is produced by spending order energy.
Charged abilities activate automatically after you use number of abilities listed under said charge.
Gacha: You will start with 100 pulls to go through and you can(Most of time you will) get 1 UR(There are 4 choices) and some assortment of R/SR and SSR. My pull was 2R, 1SSR, 1UR and rest SR. As usual with Yostar games you get "coins" that can be used to trade for goods.
For Evolution you need duplicates or generic type tokens. So even UR can be evolved to max without getting single copy of it.
Now for grind. Since this will probably be your biggest pitfall. You need to prepare for grind and I mean LOT of it. There is stamina system in game which limits you, but recharge time is not all that horrible.
But at least you can obtain plenty of resources from dreamland stages, so it is doable.
Music and sounds: This is easily on part with Nier level of music. Yes it might sound like I am overshooting, but I personally enjoy music in this game a lot.
Storyline: So far story is easy to understand, makes sense and is reasonably fun. It is not some groundbreaking story about post apocalyptic world or such. But it is fair to say that it is one of better ones out there.
Thank you for reading this far. And if you plan to join us. I would kindly welcome you with my code: 915780cc
It will give you 200 gems to start with.
Thank you for reading and if you got any questions. Do ask. I will answer as soon as possible.
So, lets talk a bit about this game. Yes, people are bitching and giving it low score due to reasons that they are not able to join in.
I am not one of those people. I am from country that have support so I can play and to be fair. I am enjoying it.
Sure combat is pretty much 3v3 with 2 weapon and 1 character abilities(Mostly 3v3, there are some story missions where you are limited to chars).
Sure it might look boring on first glance, but hey you can say that about 90% of combat systems developed for JRPGs.
But what makes this game fun for me is visuals and damn good music. I am not afraid to say it, I mostly just shut down music and play without it, but here? I am loving it, every single bit.
Visuals are great as well. Hell it looks like AAA grade product.
Sure I rerolled about 10 times before I was happy with my initial pull(It is super easy here, just delete and reinstall, it takes about 250MB initially and about 3 minutes of walking before you can do first 10x pull thanks to even that gives gems now-This is written shortly after release),
As for story progression. I like those short stories, looking for crows and visuals tell another story by itself.
So this is not some action rpg that will make you destroy your phone by mashing on screen, it will probably burn your phone away due to sheer graphical and musical enjoyment.
But for me, I am having fun, yes I am not all that far(Just finished 2nd chapter), but I got super lucky and pulled 2 4* and 1 3* char on start, so I can save rest of gems for later.
If you like Squares style of storytelling, good music score and do not mind loosing yourself into scenery. Go for it.
And yes I know that this game is "global" but technically its due to limitation on publishers side. VPN helps evidently.
So if you read up to here I definitely recommend the game for reasons I mentioned before. And once I progress further(Give or take few days), there will be update on this review. But for now solid 4.4 score from me.
So far, that is saying I am on day 2 of game, I like it. Game looks clean, fun and most of all is able to keep me interested with good story.
Yes, some translation quirks are there. It took me a little bit of time to properly understood some skills due to weird wording, but after one or two uses I am perfectly fine with whats going on.

MoreWhere did I seen this before??
No matter what I am sure I seen this game and even played it. But for love of anime, what was the name.
