My Hero Ultra Impact | English

I didn’t have a phone that was good enough to play the Japanese version of this game when it came out in May 2021. Also, I didn’t like using VPN. Now that I have a new device, this English Version is great for me! Here are my thoughts about this game after playing for some time:

What I like:

1. The unlimited first 10x Gacha reroll for the starters is just too good. You can keep rerolling until you get the characters you want to play with. It is also possible to get more than one UR card. I personally got one UR Bakugo and one UR Shigaraki versus Chisaki Memory card.

2. Like any other anime-adaption mobile game, you can relive the story from the beginning of the series while making it a gaming experience. I kinda like the way it presents the story by inserting screenshots from the anime. It’s like reading a light novel.

3. The game is pretty generous in giving away free Hero Gems for rolls, and the daily free Gacha actually gives UR cards!

4. Although I just skip them after seeing them the first time, I like the skill-casting animations! They’re well designed and look good.

What could be better:

1. I feel like the result of quest fights are merely depending on whether you have enough BP (strength). There isn’t too much that you can do differently to turn the tide if your team's BP does not trump the recommendation value. The quirks don’t really matter a lot as more than 70% of your turns you’ll be auto-attacking, and the enemy’s damage is quite high.

Lineage W

What I Like:

1. It features really well the original Lineage game including sound effects, monsters, maps, and items...etc. Which is nostalgic and brings back so much memory.

2. It’s a game very friendly for those players who don’t want to spend money or just a little bit. (Of course, if you play casually and don’t mind being weaker in the game.)

3. The game has a rather convenient built-in automation system. All you have to do is moderate and interrupt only when it’s necessary, which makes the gameplay casual.

What Could Be Better:

1. This game is very much a pay-to-win game. You basically won’t be able to obtain Epic transformations and magic dolls unless you’re super lucky or if you spend much money on it. Even a Unique one is not easy to acquire.

2. The item drop rates including some of the materials are so low. You’ll need to be patient or again if you’re blessed with good luck to get one. You’ll need to farm A LOT in normal gameplay for what you want.

3. There are many cheaters who use unlawful plug-ins to automate their characters and win them more advantages on farming efficiency. Also, the workshop issue has negatively impacted the environment by monopolizing certain items or materials for crafting. The publisher NCSoft is slow and passive in dealing with both of them.

4. Many players are complaining about its queuing issue. While some servers are extremely popular (usually of those which have streamers playing in), it is crazy hard to log in to the game because of the hours-long queues.

In summary, I think that this game is not perfect and it actually needs more tweaks than anticipated. If you treat it like an idle or a casual game then you’re fine, you can experience the original Lineage vibe and the excitement of becoming stronger over time. But if you’re a competitive gamer, be minded that you will need to spend a fortune before starting to enjoy the game.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened

What I like:
1) It has so many modes to play with! PvP club, PvE black forest exploration, Dance ball, Quidditch, and so many other classes.
2) The gameplay concept is interesting. It feels like it’s the combination of Hearthstone and Clash Royale based on a Harry Potter-themed story.
3) The main story is fun and intriguing. It also has a mode to re-live the original Harry Potter story.
4) There are many easter eggs in the game, you may find them amusing.

What could be better:
1) The system requirement for the phone is pretty high. It consumes a lot of resources to run and your device will become hot in a short period of time. I would recommend using an emulator to play the game.
2) Sometimes the app just shuts down/crash out of a sudden.
3) The difference between kakin players and free players is huge, you’ll feel that in PvP. This is something that I can accept though. After all, the game needs income to operate and those people are the source of the funds.

The Spike - Volleyball Story

What I like:
It's a very interesting idea of a volleyball game on mobile. The sound is exceptional. The RPG element is also intriguing. Very satisfying movement in spikes, blocks, and serves.

What could be better:
There are many bugs. Sometimes you will serve with a posture as if you're blocking in the front row or sliding on the floor. The jump height is ridiculous for some high vertical stat players.

World Flipper

What I like:
There are many different characters that you can collect. The gameplay is innovative to combine the RPG elements in Japanese-style games and the classic pinball arcade. This reminds me of the Microsoft 3D Pinball Space Cadet but with a better experience because I can upgrade the characters and arrange my team composition. The stories of the characters are expansive and interesting. The control is so easy, you basically only need a finger to play the game.

What could be better:
It’s a bit of a shame that the art is all at the low-resolution pixels. Not that pixel designs are bad but it loses the chance to depict the details of the battlegrounds and visual effects. They didn’t seem to fully utilize the advantages of voiceover. Most of the time in the dialog, the voice I heard was either a surprised shout, a sigh, an approving humm...etc. instead of a complete sentence.

The game is creative and rather enjoyable in general. A fine gacha rate and generous free resources make the game worth playing. One of the most accessible controls and user-friendly interface have pushed the game to a higher level.

進擊的探險隊

3.4

Raid Masters

What I like:
The control is easy and the atmosphere is casual. The collection system makes you feel your character is really getting stronger, it’s very similar to Guardian Tales. And I think...that’s all lol.

What could be better:
For melee heroes, it’s really hard to dodge the enemy’s melee attack, but the ranged heroes are too weak. The combat is not very satisfying, including the visual effects, the sound, and the reactions of being attacked. You cannot really tell whether you hit them or not unless you focus on the damage popping out. Sometimes it forces you to use the skill even if you just want a normal attack. Super expensive in-game item compared to your gold gain.

In short, I don’t find this game particularly enjoyable. But if you wanna find a game for you and your friends to play together, this could be the one to try out.

Counter: Side | SEA

What I like:
Incredibly generous to free-play gamers, you can reroll 30 times for your first cards. The resources are also easy to acquire. Recently they’re promoting so you’ll get another crazy 90 draws for free. If you’re lucky enough you may get half of the SSR characters in the collection (though I got the Xiao Lin 4 times [憋屈]). The controls are straightforward and easy. The story is attractive and the character visual arts are good.

What could be better:
There’s really not much I would change about otherwise I’m just being picky. Probably a bit more male characters to balance the genders (despite the fact that I know more boobs and cute faces can attract their target audience [汗顏]).

This is a great game and I look forward to seeing more of this gem shine in the near future!

MochiCat Collection

What I like:
This game is pure cuteness, and it’s very relaxing and casual. The mochicats are SO cute, and there are tons of different types of mochicats for you to collect. You can pet, poke, lift, and feed your mochicats as if they are your own pets. Each interaction has a different animation and they’re all cute.

What could be better:
Except for the interactions mentioned above, there’s not much else to do, which means you need to poke them A LOT OF times (actually some people might enjoy it [汗顏]), and the quests are repeated.

If you want to have a pet but can’t do it in the real world, this is the game for you.

寵物跳跳樂

Pogo Pets

What I like:
Very cute animal figures and there are so many different cosmetics for you to customize. It’s not so hard to collect the coins and that makes the craft easier. Most importantly, as a casual game it has no ads!Isn’t it great that there are no ads interrupting your mood when you just want to casually play a game to relax? The controls are also easy, but need some subtle movements on specific levels.

What could be better:
It would be great if it incorporates a little bit of storytelling. Sometimes the way it determines if the animal touches the pads or lands on the enemies is weird.

It’s a cute casual game that you may find pleasant to play with.

Touhou LostWord

Graphics:
The arts are pretty good including the characters and the story cards. If you like to collect your waifu and expand the harem, you’ll enjoy this. Sadly it has mediocre visual effects during gameplay.

Sound:
In general, the music is alright but sometimes is awkward, just doesn’t fit the scene. Can’t figure out why, probably it’s a bit too loud or powerful? The voice acting is splendid though it’s a shame that the voiceovers only cover less than 50% of the gameplay.

Gameplay:
The combat system is a bit confusing and not very intuitive for beginners. The good thing is that the gacha is generous, you’ll get good cards quite easily.

Storyline:
The story is not complicated to understand but is not a specifically interesting one and the way they start the fight just doesn't make sense and is kind of silly.

Overall (TLDR):
In summary, I think this game is OK, not bad on the gacha rate, and the graphics are good. But overall not an outstanding one if you consider every aspect of the game.

Genshin Impact

Graphics:
The art design is great, such as appealing environments, cool visual effects, gorgeous creatures, and most importantly all the characters are good-looking and charismatic. The interface and the graphics are very intuitive despite there being plenty of elemental effects in the game and the magical powers are flying everywhere.

Sound:
Beautiful soundtracks, accurate sound effects, and absolutely stunning voiceovers. There are four languages to pick as the voice language. The discussion of preference on the language is all over the place. If you have always preferred the Japanese voice when watching anime or playing otaku games, the seiyuu will not disappoint you. I chose Chinese for my gameplay for a few reasons: It is my mother tongue, the script was written in Chinese and it generally expresses the context without losing its meaning in translation, the voices match the personalities of the characters in most cases. The experience is surprisingly good even though it might be against my instinct to play an anime-style game with a voice other than Japanese.

Gameplay:
An open-world action role-playing game consisted of an interesting combat system, environment interactions, trivia, exploration, and adventure. The controls are smooth and the moves are seamless. The game incorporates many concepts as an action game and the scale is SO big considering it’s fully compatible on mobile devices. The combat system design is the one I reckon the most fun. Depending on your team compositions and the use of different elemental powers, it carries out countless combinations and makes the combat very satisfying. The more you play, the more you enjoy the sense of achievement by strengthening your characters, collecting equipment, exploring uncharted territories.

Storyline:
The story is good and makes you feel as if you’re reading a novel. The way it tells the story is linear and easy to follow. Every character has an extensive background story and the knowledge of the world is abundant that you need to heed the dialogs and the world quest context to grasp little by little.

Overall (TLDR):
In the first few hours, I thought I was playing an AAA single-player video game (although it actually might be considered one). The game is complete, thorough, and has great depth. It offers a delightful exploration experience, exciting encounters, pleasant art designs, amusing stories. You most likely will not regret downloading this and play through it.

BTS WORLD

4.4

BTS WORLD

Graphics:
Most of the graphics are shown as pictures from portrait photography therefore the quality is undebatable.

Sound:
There are a lot of BTS members’ voiceovers in the dialogs and phone calls. Surely many of their songs are played in the background. Nothing to be picky about. [開心]

Gameplay:
Easy to play but up to a degree of making me feel too simple. There’s no actual skill needed to perform to clear the stages. It only applies the stats of the cards and sees if it surpasses the threshold. The only way to get more points is to grind the stages and upgrade the cards with items.

Storyline:
The game is scripted story-based, and the storyline is pretty interesting being a publicist/manager for BTS. You get to go through the history of how the group was formed and cast the members by yourself. As a fanboy of theirs, it is a really exciting experience. There are also original plots here and there.

Overall (TLDR):
It’s a shame that I didn’t play this game at once it was released. If you are an ARMY, this is a must-play. The game specifically depicted the emotions from the perspective of a fan who later on becomes their manager and be close to BTS every day.

月兔漫遊

4.0

Tsuki's Odyssey

Graphics:
All the characters, the objects, and the entire environment are hand-drawn style, they are very cute!By that I mean so cute that would make you want to smile, from the bottom of your heart. [色色]

Sound:
Calming and soothing background music, nothing else too complicated.

Gameplay:
Harvesting carrots, going out fishing, buying furniture to decorate your place, interacting with your friends in the village, or simply just watching Tsuki do its own thing.

Storyline:
The store is short and simple. It doesn’t affect the gameplay too much.

Overall (TLDR):
It’s a nice casual game with fine quality. It reminds me of Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch a lot. The atmosphere is relaxing and gives you a sense of satisfaction decorating your treehouse. I have no idea why I would just sit there and watch Tsuki fishing and wait for it to catch a fish without losing patience. It’s not a game that you would spend too much time playing, but it is something that you would open for a while and tap here and there to chill out for relaxation.

CODE: SEED - Seihi no Uta

4.6

CODE: SEED Seihi no Uta

Graphics:
The character art designs are unique and outstanding, but I personally want it to have more male characters (it’s a world of equity). The 3D models in HD mode are fine considering it’s on a mobile device. The visual effects are good as well.

Sound:
Amazing background music, and great character voice acting. The combat sound effect is excellent and intuitive.

Gameplay:
Turn-based combat system in combination with match 3. Instead of going straight in and kill-them-all, the fights require strategies and decision-making. It may slow the pace down a little bit but greatly increases the quality of each fight, which is something I like. As for the character collection, I reckon it’s going to be time consuming to gather a 5-star team but 4-star characters are good enough to progress the main storyline. One thing I also like is how they manage the lobby (aka your main base) to a sim city like place. You can arrange the items and the buildings as you want, that kind of added an element to the gameplay. It’s not an uncommon feature in mobile games, but the building functions in there are actually impactful compared to the others.

Storyline:
The story itself is persuasive and makes sense, and the way it presents the story reminds me of classic Japanese single player PC games back in the 90s. Having a dialog scene with the NPCs around you and running along with the script in descriptive words make the storytelling very immersive. Although there are some typos or grammatical errors, I consider it’s good in general and you wouldn’t really notice them if you are a speed reader. Plot playback feature is impressive and interesting.

Overall/TLDR:
It’s a well-rounded good game and has a great potential from my perspective. Even though I haven’t invested too much time in this game yet, I think I’ll keep playing it for some time at least until I finish the whole story.

SuperStar KANGDANIEL

3.8

Superstar KANGDANIEL

Graphics:
The designs are straightforward and uncomplicated, and use a lot of exclusive pictures for cards and wallpapers.

Sound:
Gathering all music pieces of Kang Daniel. All the songs are extraordinary.

Gameplay:
Typical tapping on spot rhythm game. Expand card collections and challenge yourself on higher difficulty for better score rankings.

Storyline:
Unfortunately no original stories or special scripts.

Overall:
Superstar game series featuring Kang Daniel, a K-pop singer and previous member of boy group Wanna One. Give it a try if you like playing music games or if you’re a big fan of Daniel.

守望傳說 | 國際版

4.8

Guardian Tales

Graphics:
Cute pixel style. The designs of each character are interesting and there are many free skins that look amazing. They’ve well utilized the advantage of pixel designs to reduce the information overload but still managed to keep the atmosphere energized and exciting.

Sound:
The music is very good and immersive in my opinion. The sound effects are good in general, and the voice acting is splendid especially in Japanese, as if I’m watching an anime series.

Gameplay:
It does a great job on maintaining a balance among the simplicity, the accessibility, and the satisfaction of the combat system. The control is easy enough for most casual players while skillful plays are possible for the veterans. The variables of different weapon skill combos and the arrangement of heroes in the team make the fight changeable and flexible. The game mixes numerous types of elements as a whole, the one I specifically enjoyed was the puzzle factor. It’s very satisfying to resolve the puzzles hidden in the game and get all stars off the stage. One thing I didn’t find particularly interesting is the sim city building as it doesn’t majorly affect the progress and ended up a bit boring. The game has reasonable grinding needs but you can actually feel the heroes are getting stronger so I would say the feedback is good. It’s quite generous in giving out free resources if you don’t want to spend too much.

Storyline:
Like many other games the main storyline passes through all chapters, and it’s very interesting they’ve put a lot of side quests and side stories into the game. They help broaden and solidify the worldwide background story and add a bit of fun moments during the gameplay.

Overall:
To summarize I think this is a great game in combination with delightful stories, amazing role play experience, satisfying combats, cute animated characters and interactions. I definitely recommend you guys to give it a try and play it for a while.

GoGo! Sorena! Shooting Star!

Graphics: Relatively simple pixel/hand-drawn art design but it’s cute, all enemies are some kind of food with a friendly face and the ammunition shot is all chicks.

Sound: The music and the sound effect are classic arcade style, they are actually not bad and bring back a little bit of nostalgia.

Gameplay: Basically it’s just moving the character up and down on the side of the screen while shooting down the enemies swarming from the other side. The more targets you take down the more scores you get, they can be used to exchange some skins. For every game you have three lives and a bar of ammo (I think) that will recover over time, the faster you click to shoot the faster it depletes, you can also hold for release to charge a shot that can penetrate targets. There are some special items for different utilities that can be equipped for each game.

Storyline: At the beginning of every stage there’s a very short animation to show how they got there but that’s just it nothing fancy.

Overall: it’s a very casual and relaxing game that can be played when you have a little bit of free time such as when commuting or after finishing a meal.

Pokemon is having an Eevee-themed Ichiban Kuji released! If you are not familiar with this kind of lottery form merchandise, let me explain a little. Ichiban Kuji is a type of product that is usually applied to collectible merchandise in Japan. You basically do a lucky draw from a pool and see what item you get. Different from some zero-sum raffles, with every draw, there's always a matching prize.
